Chontaduro in Brine El Dorado 790g
Description
Preserved fruit. Whole cooked chontaduros, heat treated and preserved in brine. Ready to eat as a dessert. Also used as an ingredient in cakes and jams.
Pejibaye, pupuña, pipire, pijuayo, pixbae, cachipay, pifá, pibá, chima or tembe are some of the names by which this fruit is known in the traditional languages of Central and South America. This linguistic diversity reveals how widespread it is across the continent. The indigenous peoples of the rainforests that cover the vast territory from Costa Rica to Brazil have been cultivating it for approximately 2,000 years. The ancestral peoples of the Amazon greatly appreciate these fruits, which grow on palm trees that reach up to 20 metres in height, and use them to make chicha de chonta, a sweet fermented drink.
